It’s taken me until the letter U to work out that this A-Z series is actually a manifesto for the importance of artistic creation for creations sake.

When I was younger I couldn’t understand why some people would slave away over a book/piece of music/picture whatever and then just tuck it away out of sight from everyone.

I still don’t totally understand that - but I do understand that in the making of something you find total freedom. It doesn’t really matter what the driving force for creation is - it could be curiosity, could be self expression could even be boredom, it could be anything.

It’s the freedom you find within the creation that adds a little bit to yourself every time.
